The story of the first educational program exclusively dedicated to sustainable buildings “Cluj-Napoca-The City of Green Buildings” (initiated last year by a group of young people who decided to carry on the desire of showing the importance of sustainable buildings and their influence upon a large number of elements such as the environment, energy savings or urban development) was continued this year because educating future architects and engineers regarding green buildings can actively contribute to the construction of a better and safer future.

“The City of Green Buildings Academy 2015″ took place in Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu between the 30th of August and 13th of September, having as a main theme the eternal question “To build or To transform?”, proved to be a real success, as it focused on many practical workshops, mainly on the analysis of case studies dealing with real life problems that needed practical and realistic solutions.

This year’s edition was a program dedicated to students and young professionals who want to build a career in the sustainable buildings industry. The effort was to bring together all the specializations that are involved in order to develop a green building as during studies, unfortunately, students work individually or exclusively with fellow students that major in the same field. Therefore, they don’t get the opportunity to understand the whole mechanism and how important it is for an architect to work with a constructor or a constructor with a building services engineer.

The challenge, same as last year, was to bring together different specialisations and to give them a project that requires teamwork. Inside the labs of the Faculty of Building Services from The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, 20 Romanian and foreign students and young professionals majoring in architecture, structural engineering and building services, searched for best solutions for the challenge launched by the organizers during The City of Green Building Academy 2015, that is to build from the ground a green building that meets all the required quality certifications and is truly environmentally friendly or to transform an existing building into a green one throughout genius ideas and innovative technology?

The projects realized by the two teams that participated at the educational program will soon be available on the event’s website, and the organizers hope that in the near future sponsors will become interested in financing them in order to become real. More information on future projects is available on The City of Green Buildings webpage or on our Facebook page.

Our partners were the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, ASFIC,  LSUT, ASCUT, Romanian Green Building Council, CNRI and nevertheless the event’s Platinium partners E.ON Romania and PHILIPS Romania.
